Studies on Radiation-Induced Grafting of cotton and polyester

Abstract
The direct radiation graft Copolymerization of styrene onto cellulose in the form of cotton clothe by gamma-ray irradiation from a Co60 source at a dose rate of 0.16 x 106 Mrad /hr was investigated, and in grafting of polyester acrylic acid monomer was used.
Styrene was brought into intimate contact with cellulose by extension of the "inclusion" technique.
Products were dyed with various dyes such as Disperse dyes, Vat dyes, Acid dyes, Basic dyes and direct dyes.
It was; found that excellent thermoplasticity, dimensional stability, water repellence and dye ability were given to products by this graft copolymerization without appreciable decreasing of mechanical properties.
